In November of 2020, Daniel Streissguth passed away at the age of 96. He leaves behind a legacy worth celebrating: a hillside garden that he and his family spent 48 years cultivating. He and his wife Ann, and their son, Daniel, (shown in the picture above) transformed what were steep overgrown lots to an urban paradise that is now part of Seattle’s public green space. Thinning the tree canopy, removing blackberryies, ivy, bracken and nettles, they created an urban oasis together. To read more about the garden, click here. In 2009, the family published their book, “In Love with a Hillside Garden,” to encourage others to develop their own.
